Yes, acclaimed author, Rhys Bowen has announced she will use the occasion of the North American Feistival of Wales to launch the latest book in Her Royal Spyness  series – Royal Blood!

A special Meet and Greet Reception with Rhys Bowen will be held at the Festival Hotel from 5pm-6pm Friday evening, September 4, 2010. In addition on
Saturday, Sept. 5, Ms. Bowen will speak at a NAFOW seminar.

are availible now.  All of her fans are invited to both events. the tickets can are "will call" and can be picked up at the Festival Registrtaion desk prior to the event. (WNGGA membership is not required for this event.)  Or add this onto your NAFOW registration for a whole weekend of events.

Local Activities

Daytime activities include seminars, folk dancing, Cinema Wales, the Eisteddfod competiontion,  learn to speak and sing in Welsh.  Visit the Welsh Marketplace and sample a Welsh cake in the Tea room.  

 

Take a NAFOW Tour around Portland or explore the Willamette Valley with a visit to Bryn Seion Welsh church the oldest surviving Welsh church on the west coast or to see the "Spruce Goose" Howard Hughes' wooden aiplane, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Gordon House, a “Usonian house built in 1964, the Aurora Colony Antiques Row, Explore the Rose and Japanese Gardens within the city. Take in a  sample of  Oregons waterfalls and mountains when you travel up the Columbia Gorge and to Mt. Hood's Timberline Lodge .

Dave Parry Interview with Bronn Journey

"The Welsh in America" - A 12 panel exhibition covering the history of the Welsh in America, on loan from the Welsh Assembly Government,  will be displayed during the NAFOW in the lobby of the Oregon Historical Society from Sept 2-Sept 6.

Cinema Wales returns for its 8th season at the NAFOW.  Featuring " Patagonia", staring Matthew Rhys, Nia Roberts; "Men Aloud Concert Highlights"; BBC Cymry Wales biographys and documentaries  featuring  Sian Phillips, Ivor  Emmanuel, Jason Howard and the Llangollan Internstional Music festival.  More details.....

Opening Ceremony, beguinning in the afternoon of September 2,  the  will include, John Evans somewhat irreverant tales of early Welsh in Oregon and Welsh soprano Nerys Jones.

The 2010 NAFOW Eisteddfod again features the David G. Morris Award for Semi-Professional Soloist, with the winner receiving a  trip to Wales to compete at the National Eisteddfod.


Seminars will run on Friday and
 Saturday on a variety of subjects
for registrants of the Festival. 
Learn about Corgis Galore, 
Gold Fever: The Welsh in the Gold Rush to British Columbia and My Favourite 25 Welsh-Americans, a fresh interpretation and totally unexpected. Learn to sing Welsh songs  in four part harmony at the Ysgol Gȃn or begin your adventure in learning the Welsh Language.  Maybe even treat your toes to learn a few Welsh Dance steps. Visit the Marketplace & Tea Room between sessions. Something for everyone to enjoy.
Cinema Wales ~ A sample of contemporay Welsh films and programming. Sponsored by the Welsh Assembly Government.

Thursday  ~ The Festival begins with a Opening Concert  featuring harpist Bronn Journey and soprano  Katherine Journey.

Friday  ~ The Annual NWAF Award Banquet  featured soloist baritone Glynn Morris, who hails from Abergwyngregyn near Bangor North Wales.
Saturday  ~ Enjoy the Grand Concert with Côr Godre'r Aran, a Welsh Male Voice Choir based in Llanuwchllyn in Penllyn, near Bala in North Wales.

Sunday ~ the 79th Annual Gymanfa Ganu, no matter whether you are an alto or a tenor or just come to make a joyful noise, join the the  hundreds of people singing Welsh hymns throughout the afternoon and into the evening.
